Extending access between buildings after hours
5 January 2026
The university is committed to providing safe and secure environments for learning, working and activities on our campuses. This has included adjusting hours of operation and points of entry of our buildings and establishing interior access routes between buildings on North Campus to ensure access for students and staff outside of regular business hours.
Based on feedback from our community, we have extended the hours that interior access routes are accessible. We’ve also partnered with the University of Alberta Students’ Union Safewalk program to expand after-hours access between certain health sciences buildings.
We consider this extension of hours a pilot project, and will be collecting data and observations over the Winter 2026 term to inform future changes and expansions along other interior routes. If you encounter issues or have feedback about the extended hours, please let us know by using the Winter 2026 Pilot Project Feedback form.
Interior access routes
Beginning January 5, all hallways, doorways and pedways along the following routes are accessible from at least 7 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. on weekdays, with some routes open longer. Each route connects with one or more primary entrances, which share the same hours as the routes.
Find a map of these Interior Access Routes under Quick Links on uab.ca/hours.
Your ONEcard may be required for access to pedways and primary entrances during and after certain hours. Please ensure you have your valid ONEcard with you at all times to guarantee smooth access to buildings and facilities. Don’t allow someone to follow behind you or hold doors open to areas that are locked or require ONEcard access.
