EDMONTON — As artificial intelligence reshapes the professional landscape, Amii (the Alberta Machine Intelligence Institute) and the University of Alberta are addressing the urgent demand for technical expertise by introducing new workforce-ready AI training.
AI Literacy for Everyone, developed by Amii and now available through U of A Continuing Education, is an annual subscription platform ($139) offering four foundational courses in machine learning instruction and responsible AI training, digital course badges and access to 100+ new modules, webinars and expert discussions.
The initiative addresses a significant national challenge. While Canada remains a global leader in AI research, workforce adoption continues to lag. Industry estimates in a soon to be released study by Public First suggest shortages in AI-related skills are reducing potential adoption by as much as 52%, contributing to approximately $16 billion in unrealized economic gains annually.
“Launching our first channel partnership with the University of Alberta is an important moment for Amii’s literacy platform strategy,” says Cam Linke, CEO at Amii. “As a long-time partner of ours and one of the world's premier AI institutions, the U of A is a natural collaborator to help scale trusted, practical AI literacy training. Together, we are making it easier for learners to access credible, continuously updated AI education through an institution they already know and trust.”
The announcement builds on a long-standing relationship between Amii and the U of A, dating back more than two decades to the pioneering research that established Alberta as a global centre for machine learning.
“This newest partnership with Amii enables the University of Alberta to deliver essential AI training that evolves as fast as the technology itself,” says U of A President Bill Flanagan. “Together, we are bridging the gap between world-class research and everyday application, empowering working professionals with the skills they need to thrive in an AI-driven economy.”
The announcement was made at Upper Bound, Amii’s annual AI conference; this marks the first institutional channel partnership for the AI Literacy for Everyone platform since its launch in October 2025 and represents a major milestone in scaling AI literacy through trusted educational institutions and quickly into the hands of lifelong learners.
