What is your job title?

Manager, Core Research Facilities.

How would you describe your role to people who do not work in your field?

I oversee the strategic administration of financial and human resources for seven core research facilities in the FoMD. Core research facilities provide fee-based access to instrumentation and services, and have expert personnel to support the adoption and utilization of cutting-edge technologies. Our core facilities are open to all U of A and external researchers, as well as industry clients. Core facilities are essential drivers of research since they democratize access to cutting-edge technologies, support sustainability of expensive infrastructure, enhance scientific rigour and reproducibility and promote a higher level of experimentation.

What is one thing you like about working in the FoMD?

My colleagues — the Office of Research and the Core teams are very collaborative and dedicated to supporting and elevating research in the FoMD. It's exciting to see the breadth of research that takes place in the faculty!

How long have you worked at the U of A?

Almost 10 years! I started in the Office of Research in Feb. 2016, but I have been around campus for much longer as a student.

What's something you like to do for fun?

I enjoy checking out the local arts scene (Citadel Theatre and improv) or going to karaoke with friends.
