Spring and Summer Housing

Residence has a number of options to meet the needs of students requiring spring and summer housing. Here you will find information on contracts and rates, how to apply, moving in and out details and more.

CHANGES TO THE 2026 SPRING/SUMMER APPLICATION PROCESS FOR RETURNING RESIDENTS ON NORTH CAMPUS (Those who are currently living in residence and intend to live in residence during the Spring/Summer AND Fall Terms)

• If you apply for residence for both Spring and Summer and Fall Terms by March 1, you will be included in the first round of the room selection process for the Fall Term. This will allow you to choose where you want to live for the Fall Term AND to move into your Fall Term space at the beginning of your Spring & Summer contract and not have to move to another room assignment in July. Applications received after March 1 will be included in the second round of the room selection process, and your options may become limited.
• International House will not be included in the above as there is a different application process for those interested in living in the building. Those who have been selected to live in International House for Fall, and have applied for Spring/Summer, will be able to move into their Fall assignment in early May and will not have to move in July.
• Residence Saint-Jean will not be included in the above as the building is not included in the selection process and is closed to residents over the Spring/Summer months.

Important Notes on Room Availability and Assignments for NORTH CAMPUS APPLICANTS

New residents who have applied for Spring/Summer housing ONLY will be assigned a space in a consolidated residence building due to the time and operational constraints of move-out occurring on May 1. The residence building location is still to be determined and is dependent on the number of spaces required. Your move in day will be May 2.

New residents who have applied for both Spring/Summer AND Fall Terms will be assigned a space in a consolidated residence building for the Spring/Summer Term due to the time and operational constraints of move-out occurring on May 1. The residence building location is still to be determined and is dependent on the number of spaces required. Your move in day will be May 2. You will receive information on transferring into your Fall Term assignment at a later date.

Current residents who are planning to stay for the Spring/Summer Term ONLY will be assigned a space in a consolidated residence building and you will transfer to your new room assignment on May 8 (May 1 if you currently live at Augustana or RSJ). The residence building location is still to be determined and is dependent on the number of spaces required.

Returning residents (those who are planning to stay in residence for both the Spring/Summer AND Fall Terms)

• If you are a current resident living in Lister Residence or Peter Lougheed Hall, you will be able to stay in your current room assignment until May 8. You will then transfer directly into your Fall Term room assignment at this time. This is where you will live for the Spring/Summer Term as well. This equals no moving at the end of July!
• If you are a current resident in an Upper Year residence building and wish to stay in your current room assignment for the Fall Term, you will not be required to move at all. This is where you will live for both the Spring/Summer and upcoming Fall Terms. This equals no moving at all!
• If you are a current resident in an Upper Year residence building and wish to transfer to a new unit/building for the Fall Term, you will be able to stay in your current room assignment until May 15. You will then transfer directly into your Fall Term room assignment at this time. This is where you will live for both the Spring/Summer and upcoming Fall Terms. This equals no moving at the end of July!

For those who are not required to transfer rooms, please expect to receive more information from Residence Services about inspecting your space to ensure cleanliness and maintenance issues are being addressed on a consistent basis for the duration of your contracts.

Important Notes on Room Availability and Assignments for AUGUSTANA APPLICANTS

• New residents: Those who are not transferring directly from a Winter Term room assignment will be assigned a space in a consolidated residence building due to the time and operational constraints of move-out occurring on May 1. The residence building location is still to be determined and is dependent on the number of spaces required. Your move in day will be May 8.
• Current residents: Those who are planning to stay for the Spring/Summer Term will be assigned a space in a consolidated residence building and you will transfer to your new room assignment on May 8. The residence building location is still to be determined and is dependent on the number of spaces required.
• The only exception to the above is that residents who possess formal accommodations referrals from the Academic Success Centre will receive priority placement in a unit type that meets their needs, as per our Duty to Accommodate Policy.
• If you have confirmed a spot in residence for Fall 2026, you will not be required to move out between terms but will need to relocate to your Fall Term assignment during the Summer Term. Further details with dates and directives will be sent to you via your U of A email during the summer.

Contracts and Rates

All contract lengths are fixed. Rates include heat, water, power, tenant insurance and wireless internet. Apply early, all contracts are subject to availability.

HOW TO APPLY

When applying for Spring and Summer housing, no building preference is required as assignments are based on vacancies and consolidated space.

• Complete the online application for the Spring/Summer Term ($25 non-refundable application fee).
• Keep an eye on your U of A email (offers start going out in February) and confirm your room offer promptly, pay the non-refundable $500 deposit and follow the instructions in the email.

Eligibility

U of A students in active degree programs or enrolled in Intersession courses are eligible for Spring and Summer residence. To qualify, students must have a valid U of A student ID number, as well as a valid Campus Computing ID (CCID) and password.

Roommate Search

You will be able to search and select your own roommate(s) for Spring/Summer contracts. Submit your roommate requests for shared apartments by March 1 for priority consideration. All residents must agree and request to live together. While we'll make every effort to accommodate requests, we cannot guarantee placement.

Cancellation Policy

The application fee and residence deposit are non-refundable. If you decide to cancel after paying your deposit, you must cancel by the below dates to avoid being assessed contract fees.

Moving In

Students living in residence

If you are currently living in residence for the Winter Term, you will remain in your current unit until your transfer to your Spring/Summer residence assignment on the following dates:

• Lister Residence & Peter Lougheed Hall residents: May 8 (keys to your current unit must be returned by May 11 at 9:00 am)

• RSJ: May 1 (keys to your current unit must be returned by May 4 at 9:00 am)

• Augustana:
  • May 1 if you are transferring to North Campus (keys to your current unit must be returned by May 4 at 9:00 am) 
  • May 8 if you are staying at Augustana (keys to your current unit must be returned by May 11 at 9:00 am)

All other residents: May 15 (keys to your current unit must be returned by May 18 at 9:00 am)

Students currently NOT living in residence

Key pickup locations for contracts 1 and 2 (bring government-issued ID):

Moving OUT

Follow all move out instructions carefully.

Moving out on July 31

Return keys by 12 p.m. (noon). Limited temporary housing on North Campus may be available if required at a nightly rate from July 31 - August 15; contact guest.services@ualberta.ca for details. Use the key drop box at the Residence Services Office in International House to return keys.

Moving out before July 31

Submit a Notice to Vacate and Waiver Request Form from your Residence Account (Under Residence Forms Cabinet) and return keys by 12 p.m. (noon) on your specified date to:

• North Campus: International House
• Augustana Campus: Residence and Parking Services Office (Learning Commons 2nd floor)

To return your keys outside of business hours, use the key drop box at:

• North Campus: International House
• Augustana Campus: Ravine Commons Lounge

More Information

• The meal plan does not operate over the Spring and Summer terms.
• Storage is not available in residence.
• Bring or buy a fan as our residences do not have air conditioning.
• Bring your own bedding (twin size), pillows, sheets for a twin bed, towels, etc., as no linen or room service is provided. Laundry facilities are available in all residences.
• Smoking, including e-cigarettes and vaping, is strictly prohibited, and violators may face immediate eviction.
• Arrange parking through Parking Services.
