Justin Krewenchuk, Management and Business Economics

Justin Krewenchuk has always been interested in business, so it was an easy choice for him to pursue a bachelor of management degree at the University of Alberta’s Augustana Campus. A forward and then a volunteer with the coaching team with Vikings men’s basketball, Justin’s post-secondary journey began at MacEwan University before he transferred to the U of A for his third year.

Here, Justin shares some of his favourite memories from his time in Camrose and his plans for the future as he graduates with his bachelor of management in management and business economics.

What is one of your favourite memories from your time at Augustana?

One of my favourite memories from Augustana was being involved with Vikings basketball, both as a player and then as a volunteer with the coaching team in my last year. The small community at Augustana made it easy to build strong friendships and connections that I’ll always value and stay close to for a long time.

Tell us about your favourite professor and/or class.

My favourite class was the AUMGT 490: Business Policy and Strategy capstone. Assistant lecturer Brad Geddes made it such a fun class to be a part of. Whether it was through board games, daily group discussions, a negotiation event, his investment simulation or just his slides, he always found a way to make attending and participating interesting.

Did you take on any leadership roles while you were a student, either on campus or in the Camrose community? 

Coming to Augustana in my third year meant I was a few years older than most of the other new guys, and this helped me to develop leadership and teamwork skills early on. Being able to help with mentoring my basketball teammates while balancing academics taught me a lot about responsibility and leading by example.

How did you get where you are today?

A combination of hard work, supportive mentors and taking advantage of opportunities helped me get to where I am today. Augustana gave me the chance to grow both personally and professionally, and the relationships and experiences I gained there helped prepare me for my career.

What advice do you have for current and future students?

Get involved as much as you can and don’t be afraid to step outside your comfort zone. The connections you make with classmates, professors and the community can have a huge impact on your future. Also, enjoy the experience because the Augustana community and city of Camrose are both fantastic and the years go by quickly.

How do you plan on celebrating convocation?

I’m looking forward to celebrating with family, friends and the people who supported me throughout my degree. It’s a meaningful milestone and a great chance to be around them before moving for work.

What's next after graduation?

After graduation, I’ll be starting my career as an assistant project manager with Morgan Construction. I will be working out of Detour Lake Mine in northern Ontario. I’m excited to apply what I learned at Augustana in a professional setting and continue developing my skills and experience.
