Essential Newborn Care: Using Simulation-Based Education to Decrease Global Neonatal Mortality

Dr. Hasan Merali is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pediatrics, McMaster University and a pediatric emergency medicine physician at McMaster Children’s Hospital. His academic work focuses on both essential newborn care and child injury prevention in low-and middle-income countries. He has been a member of the Global Neonatal Advisory Committee since 2018 and has served as a technical advisor for several projects, mainly in East Africa. His injury research focuses on examining factors associated with child passenger helmet and restraint use. This work is part of the Bloomberg Philanthropies Initiative for Global Road Safety, a multi-country project aiming to reduce road traffic injuries and fatalities.
