Hailea Purcell

I am a PGY-1 Psychiatry resident at the University of Alberta with a strong interest in community-engaged, culturally safe mental health care. I completed my undergraduate and medical training at the University of Alberta with a focus on Indigenous health, rural and northern medicine, and social accountability in clinical education. I have also trained and worked as a Registered Nurse in a variety of urban, rural, and remote settings across Alberta and the Northwest Territories. These experiences have shaped my commitment to equity-oriented care and meaningful community partnership.

Interests and Vision for Social Accountability

My vision for social accountability centers on aligning medical education, clinical care, and research with the needs and priorities of the communities we serve. Living and working in Treaty 6 territory, I am committed to advocating for Indigenous, rural, and underserved populations. I am passionate about advancing culturally safe care, strengthening community partnerships, and supporting learners to engage meaningfully with the social determinants of health. Through the Social Accountability Committee, I hope to contribute to initiatives that embed accountability, humility, and community voice into training, policy, and practice across the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry.

Hobbies or Interests Outside of Work/School

Outside of medicine, I enjoy spending time with my family, including my partner and our two children, practicing yoga, and being outdoors whenever possible.
