Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must meet the following criteria to be considered for either of the International Summer Programs:

Enrollment Status

Applicants must be registered in a full-time program at a recognized post-secondary institution, either within Canada or internationally.

Minimum Age

Applicants must be 18 years of age or older by the program start date.

English Language Proficiency

Applicants must meet the minimum English requirement for the program they select:

  • Immersive Global Simulation Lab (IGSL): IELTS 5.5 or equivalent
  • Global Youth Changemaker Lab (GYCL): IELTS 5.0 or equivalent

Program Waiver Requirement

Each program requires the participant to sign a program-specific Release of Liability, Assumption of Risk, and Indemnity Agreement.

Waivers must be signed during the program orientation. Participants who choose not to sign the waiver at that time, will not be able to participate in the program.

Program Fees

Program fees include accommodation, weekday lunches, workshops, cultural activities, and scheduled excursions.

  • IGSL: $4,800 CAD
  • GYCL: $4,800 CAD

Fees do not include airfare, visa or immigration costs, personal expenses, health care or meals other weekday lunches.

The $150 CAD application fee is non-refundable and will be credited toward the program fee for accepted students.

English Language Proficiency Documentation

Applicants must provide proof of English ability as part of their application. Acceptable documentation includes:

  • Official English test scores (IELTS, TOEFL, Duolingo, or equivalent)
  • A letter from the home institution verifying English proficiency
  • Evidence of completing academic coursework taught in English
  • Registration in an education system or school where the primary language of instruction is English

If an institution is sending a cohort of students and would prefer to submit application information via a spreadsheet, please contact us at vistuab@ualberta.ca to receive a template. 

  1. Submit the Online Application Form: Use the application link provided on this page to complete and submit your application. Review the eligibility requirements before applying. Contact visituab@ualberta.ca if you are not able to access the application form.
  2. Pay the Application Fee: A $150 CAD non-refundable application fee must be submitted with the application. This amount is credited toward the total program fee if you are accepted.
