How to Apply for University of Tokyo SPRING GX Advanced Skill Training at the U of A

Step 1: Find a Host Supervisor

The research internship candidate must find a willing University of Alberta host supervisor and work with the host supervisor to determine a mutually agreed upon research project and duration based on the scholarship that is being applied for.

Please find our professor listings by faculty and research area on the different University of Alberta faculty websites. Then you can make connections by emailing professors you would potentially like to work with, as their contact information is on the website. When emailing them, please be sure to include:

  • your full name and contact information
  • your home University and home country
  • whether you are currently an undergraduate or graduate student
  • which year of your program you are in
  • the full name of the program you would be applying for
  • how long of a stay you wish to do research for (ex. 3 months, 6 months, etc.)
  • your ideal start date and availability
  • information for host supervisors

Step 2: Apply for Funding
Once you have successfully found a Host Professor at the University of Alberta for a research placement, follow the instructions to apply for funding from the University of Tokyo here.
Step 3: Complete the Participant Questionnaire

After you confirm receiving the scholarship funding from RWTH Aachen, complete this University of Tokyo SPRING Advanced Skill Training Program Participant Questionnnaire

You will require the following information and documents to complete the questionnaire.

  • Your full legal name, date of birth, and country of citizenship
  • University of Alberta Host professor's full name and email address
  • Project Title/Description of Research Activities
  • Research experience start date and end date
  • Copy of your approval funding letter from the University of Tokyo
  • Copy of the Letter of Invitation from the UAlberta host professor

 

Step 4: Documentation
The University of Alberta International Education & Enrolment will prepare and email a scholarship summary and offer and send it to the candidate. The candidate will need to confirm by submitting the signed Terms & Conditions Letter and a completed form.
Step 5: Invitation Process
The University of Alberta International Education & Enrolment will start the official invitation process and prepare the documents required for entry into Canada and provide them to the candidate along with useful pre-departure information.
Step 6: Pre-departure Preparations
The candidate will start any required immigration applications and other pre-departure preparations.
