Career Studio is a weekly drop-in space for U of A engineering students that is welcoming, practical, and designed to support you in your career exploration and job search. Whether you have 5 minutes or 2 hours, stop by on Wednesdays between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. in ETLC, E2-040 to learn, connect, and take action that moves you closer to your career goals.

Programming at Career Studio varies weekly, but common elements include:

  • Drop-in Job Search
    Focused time to research potential employers, improve your resume, write a cover letter, update your LinkedIn, and have your quick questions answered by experts.
  • Employer in Residence
    Connect with professionals in 1:1 or small group chats, to learn about the featured company and gain high-value insights on engineering career paths, work environments, culture, recruitment practices, and what they look for when hiring.
  • Ask Us Anything Career Panels
    Join moderated Q&A sessions with professionals in career development, engineering, research, and more to uncover best practices and insights to successfully navigate your career.
  • Open Networking
    Practice essential networking skills in a fun, low-pressure environment where making new friends is a bonus.
  • LinkedIn Headshots
    Book a time to have a professional headshot taken. Offered several times a term.

Navigate your next career fair with confidence, make a strong impression, and maximize opportunities. Learn what employers expect, how to strategically prepare, and key methods for standing out before, during, and after a fair.
Kick Start Your Job Search
Understand strategic vs. traditional job search approaches, set strong goals, and learn how to find opportunities in any economy. Build essential skills in career research, informational interviews, and proactive outreach for accessing the hidden job market.
Writing an Effective Resume
Learn how to craft an engineering resume that highlights your qualifications, uses strong skill statements, and avoids common formatting mistakes – improving your odds of landing an interview.
Acing an Interview
This workshop equips engineering students with the best practices required to differentiate themselves before, during, and after an interview. Participants will gain confidence in effectively answering traditional and behavioral questions, and learn key strategies to effectively handle technical questions.
Networking for Success
Gain a clear understanding of networking principles, its strategic importance for career exploration and growth, and best practices for building meaningful, goal-aligned professional connections. Leave with practical tips for preparing, engaging confidently, and applying our Golden Rules to grow your professional network with intention.
Leveraging LinkedIn
Learn how to build a LinkedIn profile that strengthens your career brand and how to use it to research career options, make connections, and find your next summer, co-op, or full-time opportunity.
