Funding Your Graduate Education
The University of Alberta has various awards, scholarships and prizes to assist you in funding your graduate studies. The Faculty of Graduate & Postdoctoral Studies (GPS) alone administers $29 million in scholarships every year.
Awards, scholarships and prizes are funded by a variety of sources, including the Government of Canada, the Government of Alberta and the generosity of our many donors.
Expression of Interest: Canada Impact+ Research Training Awards
Canada Impact+ Research Training Awards are a one-time federal initiative designed to help Canadian institutions recruit outstanding doctoral students and postdoctoral scholars who are currently based outside of Canada. Doctoral awards provide $40,000 per year for up to three years, while postdoctoral awards provide $70,000 per year for up to two years.
The expression of interest deadline is Feb. 9, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. MT.

The ASC offers a variety of free workshops for graduate students.
Interested in a writing retreat?
CIHR will be offering two MS Teams Q&A sessions to trainees, postdoctoral researchers and institution staff regarding award programs that are offered.

All award competitions are adjudicated by the Graduate Scholarship Committee (GSC), which is a standing committee of the GPS Council.
