Course Material Access
Beginning Fall 2026, undergraduate students will begin the semester with access to all of their required digital and printed course materials for a flat rate per semester, with the option to opt out.
Course Material Access ensures students will have access to required digital and printed course materials on the first day of class for a flat fee of $259 per term (fall or winter) or $139 per term (spring or summer).
This fee will appear in your Fee Assessment in Bear Tracks and is completely optional – students can easily opt out if it doesn’t suit their needs.
COURSE MATERIALS
Students will have access to the latest editions of course materials. They will primarily be delivered digitally through Canvas, with print being available for pickup at the Bookstore if digital options are unavailable.
Digital formats are prioritized to offer students instant access to their required course materials and to adapt to the changing publishing industry, where many new editions are only being offered digitally. All digital materials meet accessibility requirements for screen readers and text-to-speech technology and can be downloaded for offline use.
Course materials will include required textbooks, literature, online publisher courseware, most lab manuals and coursepacks.
Lab supplies, art and stationary supplies, chemistry lab manuals, uniforms or other non-text items will not be included.
OPTING OUT
Beginning Fall 2026, the student’s status, access and opting out will be available through Canvas.
If a student decides the program is not for them, they will be able to opt out by each term’s registration deadline. They maintain access until they opt out, allowing them to keep up with their classes while they consider other options, like borrowing from the library or purchasing. Once opted out, the fee will be removed from the student account.
Students will automatically be opted out if none of their digital or printed course materials have a cost associated with them.

For Instructors: Requesting course materials
Beginning in June, course material requests for Fall 2026 will be done in a new portal, accessed through Canvas. More details to come. Faculty maintain the academic freedom to choose their preferred course materials.
Instructors are encouraged to consider Zero Textbook Cost approaches by using licensed library materials and the adoption and development of Open Educational Resources, which are freely accessible and customizable learning resources that reduce costs for students.
