International SOS

The University of Alberta is committed to the wellbeing of our employees, faculty members and students, which extends to those traveling internationally for university affairs. To support travellers, the university provides access to International SOS (ISOS).
ISOS is a global organization that provides access to extensive information on international travel preparation and resources, travel registration services and crisis response in the event of an incident or medical emergency.
Prior to and during your trip you can access your personal portal to find travel, medical and security information about your location of travel. From the portal you can request email notifications about the place you are travelling to.
To register you will need the University of Alberta ID number, which you can find in Google Drive if you sign in through your university account.
In addition to the portal, travellers have access to the ISOS app. This can be downloaded from your app store, portal, or the ISOS website. A 2½‑minute video takes viewers on a travel journey, from pre-trip preparation right through to on-trip support, demonstrating how the app serves as a trusted companion at every stage of travel.
During travel, if you have a medical or security concern you can contact ISOS through the app who will provide support based on your location of travel. An overview of their service offering is below.

If you use ISOS for medical assistance, please remember to contact your medical insurer as soon as possible to report a claim.
By using ISOS, if an incident or emergency occurs, the university also receives notification of any impacted traveller. This allows the university to reach out to you and assess if you need any type of medical or emergency assistance.
