The Faculty of Engineering’s centres and institutes provide the collaborative structure that drives much of our research. These hubs bring together faculty, students and partners to advance work in areas such as energy, water, materials, infrastructure and emerging technologies. They support applied projects, shared facilities, industry partnerships and training opportunities that put students at the heart of active research. By connecting expertise across departments and sectors, our centres and institutes form the backbone of engineering’s research ecosystem.
Canadian Centre for Welding and Joining (CCWJ)
Advances welding and associated technologies to support industries such as hydrogen, nuclear, electrification, oil and gas, mining, shipbuilding and construction through expertise, facilities and partnerships.
Canadian Underground Infrastructure Innovation Centre (CUIIC)
Researches sustainable and cost-effective solutions for building, assessing and rehabilitating underground infrastructure.
Centre for Applied Research in Defence and Dual-use Technologies (CaRDD-Tech)
A multidisciplinary hub developing sensing, robotics, quantum, cyber/AI and dual-use technologies for defence and economic growth.
Centre for Energy and Mineral Processing (CEMP)
Supports energy and mineral processing research with industry partners, focusing on decarbonization and efficiency.
Centre for Hydrogen Innovation, Workforce Development and Outreach (CHIWDO)
Brings together researchers to advance hydrogen production, storage, transport and utilization, while training the workforce and conducting outreach.
CISC Centre for Steel Structures Education and Research

Construction Innovation Centre (CIC)
