Automobile Incident Checklist

  1. Immediate Actions

    • Stay Calm
    • Mover to safety, away of traffic
    • Remain at the scene with the other involved parties
    • Check for injuries
  2. Report

    • Call 911 If
      • There are any injuries
      • You believe anyone involved in the accident has committed an offence, such as a DUI
      • Damage to all vehicles combine to more than $5,000
      • IF YOU ARE UNSURE, report it to be on the safe side
    • Call University of Alberta Protective Services at 780.492.5050
    • Was the collision in the City of Edmonton? Once you know the extent of damages, and the total combined damage of all involved vehicles or property exceed $5,000

    • If the vehicle was taken from:
      • Transportation Services, contact them at 780.492.1920 or 780.492.4833 (after hours).
      • Rental Agency: Contact the agency to report the claim, and if additional insurance was NOT purchased at the time of renting the vehicle, contact the insurance provided by the University of Alberta Corporate Purchasing Card (P-Card) or personal credit card that the rental was purchased on.
  3. Collect Information

    • Other driver’s contact information and driver’s licence (take a photo of their licence)
    • Other vehicle’s insurance information (take a photo of their insurance certificate)
    • Record the Year, Make, Model, and Licence Plate of the other involved vehicles
    • Collect names and contact details of any witnesses to the accident
    • Take photos of the accident scene, and the damage/impact points of all involved vehicles
    • Record the address/intersection of the accident scene, and note directions of travel of the involved vehicles
